But the first day of spring was a balmy 30 degrees in Rhome, with a blanket of snow.   -Janet Henry

NORMAN, Okla. A powerful storm began blowing through Oklahoma and the southern Plains on the first day of spring Saturday, bringing heavy snow and strong winds a day after temperatures reached into the 70s. Officials said gusts of up to 40 mph could create drifts of blowing snow and blizzard conditions in what the National Weather Service called "a potentially life-threatening" storm. Even though it seems like a no-brainer, Norman may soon be getting its first doughnut shop/cyber cafe hybird. As a writer, Dana Loy found that the class on memoir writing her friend's mother was taking sparked an interest in her. Daffodils are pushing up from the thawing ground, the robins are arriving and the snow mounds have melted in the company parking lot. It's business as usual, depending what business you're in, putting behind a harsh winter that helped some businesses and hurt others. Coming off the heels of the snowiest winter in recorded history and wondering when the white stuff would ever melt, Delaware County residents couldn't ask for a day better than Saturday to kick off spring. "It's beautiful. It's good for the soul to get out and enjoy weather like this," said Nick Palladino, who spent the afternoon fishing with his 9-year-old daughter Michelle at Ridley Park Lake. "I take her here every year. She usually catches a catfish or a sunner," said Palladino, a Ridley Township r
